After Halloween my kitchen table is often piled with candy: what the kids brought home, plus leftovers from the bowl I set out. This year there was more than usual, so I decided to turn the extras into a quick snack everyone enjoys. I limit how much the kids can eat — one or two pieces a day — but this project lets them help create something special from the leftovers.

Leftover Halloween candies transformed into a quick snack with pretzels and chocolate.

This recipe is very flexible and uses three main components: a crunchy base (pretzels or crackers), melted chocolate, and small candies. It takes about 15 minutes to prepare and is simple enough for children to assemble with minimal supervision. The chocolate acts as both flavor and “glue,” holding the candies in place.

Choose any small candies you have on hand — I used peanut butter pieces paired with pretzels and chocolate. The salty crunch of the pretzel balances the sweetness of the chocolate and candy. Once assembled, I popped them in the freezer for about 10 minutes to set the chocolate quickly. They turned out so tasty I couldn’t stop nibbling on them!

These little clusters reminded me of tiny decorated pumpkins — a fun, seasonal snack idea for Thanksgiving or fall gatherings. They’re perfect for using up extra M&M’s, Reese’s Pieces, or similar candy pieces.

How much leftover candy do you have after Halloween? If it’s more than you need, try this easy transformation and let the kids join in the fun.
