Decadent Chocolate Mousse Recipe for Velvety, No-Bake Dessert

Easy Chocolate Mousse

It’s almost Friday, and the end of the week calls for chocolate. Always. This super-simple chocolate mousse requires no custard and uses a surprising ingredient that makes it lighter than traditional mousse: avocado. Ripe avocados give this dessert a silky, buttery texture while contributing healthy fats and a naturally creamy base.

Easy Chocolate Mousse

At first I was skeptical, and my first attempt wasn’t great. The trick is to use very ripe avocados — not bruised, but soft enough that their flavor blends into the chocolate. If the avocados are underripe you may taste them in the finished mousse. I also find the best results come from combining good-quality melted chocolate with unsweetened cocoa powder for a rich chocolate flavor and balanced sweetness.

This chocolate mousse is effortless: blend the ingredients, spoon into bowls, chill, and serve. It’s quick to prepare and makes an elegant, dairy-free dessert that’s perfect for busy weeknights or when you want something special without a lot of fuss.

This rich, chocolatey mousse is made with avocados for a smooth, dairy-free dessert that’s quick to prepare and satisfyingly indulgent.

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 4 very ripe avocados, peeled and pitted
  • 2/3 cup agave (or stevia, granulated sugar, or powdered sugar)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Fresh raspberries or strawberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Set up a double boiler by placing a heat-safe bowl over a saucepan with water halfway up the pan. Bring the water to a gentle boil, add the chocolate chips, and stir until melted. Remove from heat and let the chocolate cool slightly.
  2. Place the avocados, agave (or chosen sweetener), cocoa powder, milk, vanilla, and salt into a blender or food processor. Pour in the melted chocolate. Blend until completely smooth and creamy.
  3. Spoon the mousse into serving bowls, cover, and chill for at least 4 hours to set. Garnish with berries before serving. For best texture and flavor, eat within 48 hours.
