The orange Jell-O gives these shots their bright citrus flavor and beautiful color — a playful twist on the classic mimosa of champagne and orange juice. If you prefer, you can substitute Prosecco for the champagne. Note: do not add more champagne than the recipe specifies or the gelatin may not set.

This recipe is intended for adults 21+. An alcohol-free mocktail version is provided below for younger or non-drinking guests.

In a medium mixing bowl, add the orange Jell-O and pour in the boiling water. Stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved.

Use an injector or spouted cup to fill each shot cup about three-quarters full. Place the tray of shots in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until fully set.

Just before serving, pipe or spoon on whipped cream and finish with an orange slice if desired. Garnish at the last minute so whipped cream holds its shape.

Tips for Making

  • Substitute Prosecco for champagne if you prefer.
  • Do not exceed 1/2 cup of champagne — too much alcohol can prevent the Jell-O from setting.
  • Garnish right before serving so whipped cream and decorations look their best.
  • For extra sparkle at special events, sprinkle edible glitter on top just before serving.
  • You can also pour the mixture into a rimmed baking sheet, chill until set, and cut into cubes for serving instead of using individual cups.
  • Use store-bought Cool Whip or homemade whipped cream. If you don’t have a piping bag, fill a large zip-top bag with whipped cream, seal it, cut a corner off, and pipe.
