My boys had a fantastic time with a How to Train Your Dragon adventure, courtesy of Playmobil. We started with the Snotlout and Hookfang set. The set includes Snotlout, Hookfang and several accessories such as a Viking helmet, shield, a sheep and a bucket of fish. Their favorite accessory was the crossbow with flaming arrows—hours of imaginative play followed, as they flew Hookfang around the living room and staged daring sheep dives.

Assembly was straightforward with clear picture instructions, and the dragon was ready to fly quickly.

The extra pieces—the crossbow, flaming arrows and other accessories—encouraged cooperative play. Multiple children can play together or separately, which is a real plus for a household with several kids.

Whether flying Hookfang solo or with Snotlout in the saddle, the boys found endless scenarios to play out.

My youngest especially enjoyed the role-play aspect, bringing the characters to life by equipping Snotlout with his helmet, shield, hammer and saddle.

We also tried the Gobber the Belch with Sheep Sling set. This playset ties into Berk’s new dragon sport: teams dive to catch a sheep that Gobber launches into the air, then aim to drop it into their matching basket. My youngest preferred simply launching the sheep and dropping it into baskets, while my eldest enjoyed assembling the set—he needed only minor help with the wheels.

Overall, the boys loved these toys. Adding other DreamWorks Dragons sets would expand play possibilities even more. The afternoon was soon filled with dragon adventures, sheep “baaaing,” and a family screening of How to Train Your Dragon to keep the theme alive.

As a busy mom, I’m always searching for screen-free, engaging activities my children can enjoy together. These How to Train Your Dragon Playmobil sets deliver imaginative, cooperative play and kept my boys entertained for hours. I hope your family enjoys them as much as ours did.
