Dream Living Room Ideas for Stylish, Cozy Home Design

This post was written in partnership with CORT and reflects my honest opinions.

Is there one room in your home you wish you could change? For me, it’s the living room. It’s a mix of old and new pieces that work, but there are several upgrades I keep imagining — especially new couches.

I decided to sketch out my ideal living room designs and had so much fun I created two distinct styles to inspire different tastes and moods.
Two dream living room style sheets to inspire you! Whether you're moving, redecorating, or upgrading your home, how furniture rental can make life easier.

Dream Living Room Design #1: “Cozy Chic”

Comfort is everything to me, whether it’s clothes, cars, or furniture. The “Cozy Chic” design prioritizes warmth and relaxation while staying stylish and inviting.

This scheme uses soft neutrals with accents of blue and green to create a calming atmosphere. The overall aesthetic feels lived-in and welcoming; you should be able to sink into the space and relax immediately. My favorite element is the chaise lounge — a perfect spot to curl up with a good book.

A plush shag rug completes the look and makes the room ideal for family movie nights or cozy gatherings with plenty of pillows and blankets.

Dream Living Room Design #2: “Retro Mod”

I didn’t plan to create a second design, but I discovered so many appealing pieces that a bold, contrasting concept came together naturally.

The “Retro Mod” design channels 1960s flair with warm pinks and oranges and playful geometric shapes. It’s energetic and visually engaging, ideal for entertaining because it feels bright and festive.

Statement pieces and bold accents make this style stand out, creating a lively room that invites conversation and celebration.

Both inspiration boards were put together using items available from CORT Furniture Rental. Renting furniture is a practical option if you’re relocating, staging a home, or simply want to refresh your space without committing to permanent purchases.

Having moved several times, I’ve learned that taking fewer possessions makes transitions easier. Renting furniture can fill gaps while you settle into a new home or help you try a new style without long-term commitment.

CORT offers complete room sets as well as individual pieces to suit different needs, from sofas and rugs to accent art and lighting. Whether you need a temporary setup during a move or want to outfit a space while you decide on permanent pieces, renting can be a flexible, time-saving solution.

If you’re considering a change — moving, redecorating, or upgrading — furniture rental is a useful option to explore. It lets you experiment with design and get comfortable in your space quickly.
