Everywhere I look, the holiday season is already making its presence felt: stores are preparing for Christmas shoppers, catalogs arrive in the mail, blogs share seasonal ideas, and Pinterest overflows with crafts and recipes. Still, I like to savor autumn a little longer here on the blog. That’s easy to do when there’s a stunning Autumn cake to admire.
With rich, deep tones and a subtle feminine elegance, this cake is a beautiful autumnal take on seasonal color. Shades of gray transition into a shimmery purple, while an abundance of sugar blossoms creates a delicate, ruffled texture. A short top tier features a single rose for a refined finishing touch. The result is a spectacular cake titled Autumn Blooms, created by Allison Kelleher, owner of AK Cake Design in Portland.
Gorgeous—simply gorgeous. I love the subtle color shifts in the blossoms and the gentle shimmer across the petals. The palette works beautifully with the orange pumpkins placed nearby, making this cake a striking centerpiece for a Thanksgiving table or an elegant fall wedding.
Allison of AK Cake Design describes her inspiration:
“I was asked to make a purple cake for a fall/Halloween shoot and felt stuck until I watched a film about one of my favorite artists, Andy Goldsworthy, called ‘Rivers and Tides.’ It wasn’t a single image from the movie that inspired me so much as the concept of creating something unexpected within nature. A cluster of black blossoms with bright hints of purple felt right—slightly brooding yet harmonizing with the sweet flower ‘pumpkin’ beside it. I crafted black and gray blossoms and dusted them with black, purple, and white petal dust.”
Those sugar blossoms are enchanting—dainty, delicate, and utterly captivating. They transform the cake into an artful statement piece that suits an elegant fall celebration.
